My story
"...I want my music to move people"
I've been singing as long as I can remember. My first public performance was aged 4 at a talent show in a holiday camp. I took the mic out of the MC's hand and sang "When Irish eyes are smiling". I didn't win but there wasn't a dry eye in the house!
I think that was when I decided that music's job is to move people. That's what I still try to do with my music: connect with and move people's emotions, whether it is to smile, reminisce, dance or cry. As long as it's a good feeling!
I've sung in many genres over the years and my influences range from Joni Mitchell, Frank Sinatra and Billie Holiday to Led Zeppelin, Patsy Cline and opera! I'm not averse to a bit of country either (I recorded Wichita Lineman on my debut album!)
As well as developing my own creative projects, over the last 10 years or so, I have actively supported other artists, particularly in my hometown of Paisley. As a result of this voluntary work, in 2018 I was awarded "The Provost's Champion for Arts and Culture”
For most of my life, while I 'worked the day job', latterly as a marketing consultant, music was a sideline, and I fitted in gigs, wrote and honed my 'chops' around other commitments.
A few years ago though, I realised: if not now, then when? I put aside my consultancy and decided to focus full time on music. That culminated in my recording my debut album, "A little bit of me", in October 2018. (See more about this on my Music Page.)
