When I finally decided to record my first album, it was very hard to choose songs from a lifetime of enjoying all sorts of music. I always wanted my debut recording to include some of my own songs too. Every song on the album, therefore, means something to me, which is why I called it "A little bit of me".
It reflects my eclectic musical tastes and includes a few of my own songs - inspired by 1960’s spy themes and Carmina Burana - alongside jazz standards plus my interpretations of Sandy Denny’s folk classic, “Who knows where the time goes” and the ever popular country hit, “Wichita lineman”.
I was delighted to work with some of Scotland's finest jazz musicians, Euan Stevenson on piano, Mario Caribe, bass, Tom Gordon, percussion and Konrad Wisniewski on saxophone.
It was recorded and mixed by Gus Stirrat at Solas Sound and mastered by Iain Hutchison at Gloworm Recording Ltd (both Glasgow).
Since its release in October 2018, it reached no 24 in Amazon's UK Jazz Chart, has won an award as Lincoln City Radio's Jazz Album of the Year, 2018 and my song, "I love your smile" has been shortlisted in a number of competitions including being a finalist in the World Songwriting Awards, Fall 2019.
Tracks are regularly played on radio stations, downloaded and streamed in six continents - I'm working on Antarctica!

"My Scottish Heart"
My next album will be a selection of traditional Scottish songs, reimagined and given new incarnations in jazz settings. Some are well know favourites by Burns and the like and others less well known. And, of course, some of my own creations will be there too!
I'm delighted to work with Euan Stevenson again on this and we will be in the studio with Gus very soon - current circumstances permitting.
New Single - "Auld Lang Syne"
On 30 November (St Andrew’s Day) I release a single from my forthcoming album, due for release in early 2021.
It’s my version of “Auld Lang Syne”, a well-kent Scottish tune, but I’m singing it to the original tune that Robert Burns set his words to. It is a song of reminiscence and farewell and I think is particularly poignant this year. I’m sure we’d all like to say goodbye to 2020!
Till the end of the year, I’m donating all sales to the charity “Help Musicians Scotland”. I hope you like it and I wish us all a large cup of kindness in 2021. (listen below)
